Ultraman!
Gods, I love Hulu.
So I get to have lunch on my own because going out would have meant losing 90 minutes or so I don't have to lose, so, during lunch, I decided to check out Hulu and see if there was anything worth watching. And there was. "Ultraman: Towards The Future", which seems to be an Australian/Japanese co-production, so you have one woman with an incomprehensible Aussie accent and one woman with an incomprehensible Japanese accent, but on the plus side, they're both cute. And you get to see a man in silver lame (that's la-may, but I don't know how to make the little squiggle over the 'e', and, let's face it, 'lame' is also a good word) beating up a giant multi-headed mutant tadpole. Also, the 1980s apparently ended late in Australia, 'cause, muhgawd, that hair! Those shoulderpads!
There were a lot of negative reviews by the usual types who just want to see the cheesy show they remember from their childhoods, mostly not realizing how cheesy it would seem if they ever got to see it again. But this version of Ultraman has everything I expect or desire from a kaiju show, namely, bad acting, lousy special effects, and two guys in rubbery suits demolishing a balsa wood city.
